1879 SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR CARBINE. Cal. 45-70. SN 131856. Standard carbine with 22” bbl, square base front sight with ski jump rear sight marked with a “C”. Breechblock is case colored and dated 1873 as is the lockplate. It has a 1-pc stock with a sling bar and ring on the left side and carbine butt with trap. The forestock has been modified with the addition of a grasping groove on each side. CONDITION: Stock as noted. Metal is very fine and retains an even dark blue/brown patina. Breechblock retains about 50% case colors with the balance turned silver. Tang retains most of its original case colors. Hammer and lockplate are a dark blue gray. Stock has hairline back of the lockplate and retains most of a custom finish. Bright shiny bore. 4-52347 JR131 (800-1,200)
