LOT OF TWO COPPER POWDER FLASKS. 1). Fine early Walker type “COLT’S PATENT” dbl. sided flask with 7 3/4” body. Top marked in a riband “FRARY BENHAM&CO.”. Spout is graduated from 25-50 grains. Sides of flask are repoussed with trophy of arms with cannon and mortar over a pair of crossed Paterson rifles with a pair of crossed Paterson pistols below and “COLT’S PATENT” on a riband at bottom. There is no star between the Colt’s and Patent as illustrated in Riling’s. This flask is similar to Riling’s 823 and 824. Each side of the lower body has an original heavy brass staple with a triangular shape ring. CONDITION: Very fine, retains about 50% original dark coppery color with balance a medium patina. No appreciable dents or wear, spring is good and spout is fine. 2). Brass flask with 6 1/2” body, single sided with very early hunter with dead deer and dog. See Riling’s 993. It has a three-stepped graduated spout probably for a shotgun or a rifle. Body has two small carrying rings. CONDITION: Very fine, retains about 50% original polish with couple small dents, otherwise fine. Spring retains about 90% original blue. 4-48978 JR756 (400-700)
