GOOD INCISE CARVED PENNSYLVANIA-KENTUCKY FULL-STOCK RIFLE BY HENRY LECHLER CARLISLE, PENNSYLVANIA. Cal 45. 34-1/2″ oct. bbl., signed “Lechler” on top bbl flat. Engraved original flintlock signed “Duncan & Brothers/Philadelphia”. Lovely figured maple full-stock with eight half circle silver inlays. Three brass ramrod pipes. Nose cap, trigger guard, forestock, buttplate, toe plate and side plate. There is a silver oval wrist inlay and a silver stylized crescent moon inlay on cheek rest. The butt stock is adorned with large engraved daisy head patch box. The architecture of the butt stock shows typical Carlisle attributes with gentle curving Roman nose profile. The cheek side is beautifully incised carved with opposing roccoco sea scrolls. The edge of the cheek rest has a wonderfully carved gadrooning Typical lined forestock molding. An early rifle, ca. late 18th very early 19th cent. CONDITION: Very good. Minor old, probably period, repairs to the stock, a small chip of wood is missing from the left side of the breech, approx. 1/4″ wide and 1″ long. A nicely carved and well formed Pennsylvania rifle.
