NAPOLEONIC PERIOD ENGLISH SMALL SWORD WITH SCABBARD. Superior quality sword, ca. 1790 with 32” narrow triangular shaped blade with trophies of arms and arabesque patterns of engravings with two standing ladies on the concave side. The blade is niter blued with gold wash around the engraving. The ricasso area has square and dot decorations with a trophy of arms and fleur de lis. The iron handguard is elliptical shaped and plain on the outside with two rows of iron beads on the inside. The handle, quillion block, knuckle guard and pommel cap are all decorated with faceted iron balls of graduated sizes. The grip is all iron and segmented into four strips with the aforementioned iron balls in between. It is accompanied by its original rawhide covered parchment scabbard and a small metal collections tag, allegedly from a collection of the Prince of Litchenstein. The scabbard has two delicate iron mounts with the throat having a lightly engraved inscription that is not decipherable. CONDITION: Very fine, the blade retains about 60% thin original blue mixed with brown patina and light surface rust. The decorations retain about 80% of their original gold wash. The handguard, handle and knuckle bow are a light brown patina. The knuckle bow is missing two of its faceted metal balls. The scabbard seam is open and it is missing the tip. 4-48941 JR728 (800-1,200)
