FINE BOOK IN FRENCH DESCRIBING AND PARTIALLY ILLUSTRATING THE CZAR’S COLLECTION AT ST. PETERSBURG. Grand folio (13-3/4” x 21-5/8”) printed in Paris in 1853. Titled MUSEE de TZARSKOE-SELO ou COLLECTION D’ARMES de SA MAJESTE L’ EMPEREUR DE TOUTES LES RUSSIES. This is Volume I which contains the descriptions of 149 plates showing armor, equipment, weapons, etc., as well as the first 100 plates. There is an additional full size drawing showing the back of a night in armor with numbers to identify the individual pieces of a suit of armor. There is a bookplate inside the front cover from Tiffany & Co. CONDITION: Very good to fine plates. The binding is torn and the cover is detached. The spine is split with much of the gold printing missing. There are a number of bends along the edges and light to moderate foxing, but the individual plates could be easily restored and framed. The quality is very high. There is no recent auction record on this volume. A complete set sold some years ago for $9,000. 4-48355 FS207 (1,250-1,750)
