SALESMAN SAMPLE OLIVER PLOW. One of the most recognized names in farm machinery, this classic walk-behind plow consists of a long wooden body with large brass plow, stabilizing wheel and hitch. Hand painted in red and black with “Oliver’s Patent” across the top and on both handles and “Oliver’s Combination Plow” on either side. While Julia’s has sold salesman sample Oliver plows before, what sets this example apart is the fact that it has descended through the very Oliver family that invented it. An article that appeared in “Oliver Heritage” magazine a few years ago talks of George whose mother’s maiden name was Oliver and was a direct descendent. The plow was given to her upon the close of the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904 where it had been on display. It has been in the family ever since. In fact, one time many years ago the present consignor was out in the yard using it to work the soil when George came home and quickly snatched it up, saying “That’s not a toy!”. Hearing the consignor speak fondly about the piece, his father and the experience it a touching tribute. SIZE: 22-1/2″ l x 8-1/4″ t.
