GERMAN HAND PAINTED TIN WINDUP CAROUSEL. In fabulous all-original condition, this circa late teens/early 20s toy features four lithographed animals with riders and a chariot with passengers. When the toy is wound and activated, it proceeds in a counterclockwise fashion while the music encased within plays a tune. The tin painted in cream with gold pinstriping, and airbrushed with blue, mauve, green, and orange further enhance the appeal of the toy. This was at a period of time when hand enameling of toys was becoming obsolete and lithographed tin would be the new wave of the future. The coloring and presentation of the animals (elephant, ostrich, dappled horses) would have been hard to duplicate and much more costly if they had been hand painted. Truly a wonderful and fanciful toy that not only appeals to toy collectors, but those who sit, watch, and listen. SIZE: 15″ h x 9″ dia. CONDITION: Overall very fine plus to near mint with a few paint chips and scattered dings. 1-12467 (1,000-2,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Fall 2012 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
