GEORGE BROWN ORION CLOCKWORK LOCOMOTIVE. When first glancing at this locomotive it seems lacking, awkward, strange. The large wheels are in the front with drive rods going to the pistons in the rear. Obviously a real life version of this locomotive must have existed, but to most of us we have never seen or heard of a locomotive like that. A wonderful example of ingenuity by George Brown and how they combined wood with tin and made it work. Even the wood on the yellow boiler front is heavily stenciled and being an early American railroad engine it has the typical huge smokestack. The tin boiler painted in dark blue and the yellow cab, red roof are heavily stenciled and the clockwork mechanism is concealed within the boiler. When wound the toy will propel forward and under the engine cab is a small wheel that will allow the train to proceed in various directions. Overall the condition is good to very good. SIZE: 9-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Overall outstanding and all original. There was an aged, somewhat amateur repair/resoldering of engine cab roof to sides with some minor paint loss incurred. 1-12403 (3,000-4,000)
