PATENT MODEL: HORSE POWER. Invented by Horace Parkhurst and patented in 1875 (patent #164,588), this wood and brass model rests on a portable wagon frame with four brass wheels. The horse power consists of a central triple gear mechanism attached to a post that a horse would be tethered to and walk in a circle around the machine. The gear mechanism would turn a flywheel supplying power to a belted machine. Advancements include a break lever on top of the horse power platform. An important piece of early American technology prior to steam or gasoline powered engines. Comes with an original copy of the patent office description and illustration documentation and its inventor’s tag. SIZE: 15″ l x 9″ h x 8-1/4″ w. CONDITION: Overall good to very good.
