ELEVEN PIECES OF EARLY CARVED WOOD PUNCH AND JUDY PUPPET SET. Probably from the early 1900s these finely carved and polychromed wooden puppet heads would have been utilized for puppet shows. The theme being Punch and Judy (Punch missing) with all their fellow players such as the baby, the devil, the black man, the colonel, the alligator, etc. Heads are intact and overall in very fine original paint excepting the devil who has a fair amount of wear. Their cloth bodies with wooden limbs for the most part have deteriorated and a bagful of distressed fabric and body parts is present (maybe some missing limbs). Aesthetically the heads themselves are wonderful folk art and have great appeal. SIZE: Approx. size of head 3″ to 5″ t. Alligator head approx. 10″ l. CONDITION: As described above. 1-11311 (300-600)
