1ST SERIES MAERKLIN BATTLESHIP “NEW YORK”.

1ST SERIES MAERKLIN BATTLESHIP “NEW YORK”. Found recently in a New England attic, one does not often get the chance to obtain a remarkable toy for their collection that just came directly out of an attic and is in virtually as found, untouched original condition. These particular 1st series battleships came in a variety of sizes and with various methods of propulsion (clockwork, electric, or live steam). This boat measures, from tip of bow to rear of rudder, 35″. Typical of Maerklin, much attention to detail with an abundance of cannons, railings, lifeboats, etc. that enhance the multiple decks of this toy boat. The mechanism, which most likely was clockwork, has been removed and no longer present with this boat. Intact and original are the masts, smokestacks, and gun turrets. Only a couple of cannons are missing, which is amazing as they were easily detached and lost. The paint, including the striped deck, is overall largely intact and vibrant. The boat would truly be enhanced with a light cleaning to bring back its true luster and beauty. Railings are mostly intact and in need of some minor straightening/reattachment. A small 2″ section of railing is missing on bow of boat. Even to the non-toy collector, this is a most impressive and awesome toy from the earlier part of the 20th Century. SIZE: 35″ from tip of bow to rear of rudder. CONDITION: As mentioned, this toy would truly benefit with a light, yet professional, cleaning. Minimal repair work is needed, such as railing re-soldering, lacking starboard side stair entrance way, mast support reattachment, and replacing 3 missing lifeboats, bow and aft flags, and 2 cannons. 1-9852 (20,000-40,000)
