KILGORE TAT AIRPLANE. A quite unusual example of the Kilgore TAT airplane. Oftentimes this particular toy would have damage such as a crack to the rear fuselage where it was pinned together from the factory. Perhaps the folks at Kilgore realized the problem and altered their production by employing a thumbscrew and nut in the middle of the fuselage as opposed to two rivets, one in the tail section, one in the nose section. The plane would be assembled and just a slight tightening to the thumbscrew would hold the toy together as opposed to pounding on the rivets which oftentimes led to structural damage of the fuselage. It appears that this version also comes in different coloring than the normal TAT airplane, with a more vibrant yellow wing and tail section as opposed to the normal cream color. Most life like in detailing including the ribbed fuselage and wing. This toy also employs rubber tires as opposed to nickel plated disc iron tires. SIZE: 13-1/2″ wingspan. PROVENANCE: From the collection of the late Larry Seiber of San Jose, CA. CONDITION: Very fine to near mint. 1-9108 (4,000-6,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2009 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
