LUCKY STRIKE CIGARETTES BASEBALL WINDOW DISPLAY. Extremely rare, tri-fold cardboard window display with an easel back featuring the American League’s M.V.P. for 1928 – Mickey Cochrane, and the National League’s M.V.P., Jim Bottomley. Quotations beneath each read “That toasted flavor sure hits the right spot always” and “Toasting gives a flavor no other cigarette can equal”. Images of both ball players and the baseball stadium appear to be created by stone lithography. This sensational piece was only recently discovered hidden behind a building stairwell during renovations. SIZE: 66” w x 42” h. CONDITION: Because this sign has remained out of daylight for over 75 years the colors are virtually as bright as they were the day it was printed. It was also covered with 75 years of dust, most of which has been removed, the balance being left to the successful bidder. Some separation to the cardboard backing and the printed surface has occurred primarily along the panel folds, but has also occurred in some spots along the outer edges of the display. While some conservation will be necessary to return the display to its former glory, it remains one of the most sensational of all the baseball and tobacco advertising crossovers.
