HORSE DRAWN HOOK & LADDER. Manufactured by F. W. Carpenter. This large wagon is enameled black with two red cast iron ladders, two gilt iron buckets red spoke wheels. At the wheel of this toy is a silhouette driver followed by a silhouette tiller man, both of which are enameled with blue jackets, black pants, shoes and fire helmets, and flesh-toned faces and hands. The two galloping horses, one black and one white, leading this wagon are harnessed in gilt highlighting. Unique to Carpenter toys, the movement of this wagon forces a rod on the lower wheels to rotate, causing the horses to rear up into a galloping motion. SIZE: 27”. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good, black horse and ladders have some wear, some paint chipping to white horse. MC 1-3985 (2,000-2,500)
