NEEDLEWORK MEMORIAL BY ABIGAIL GAY, BRIDGWATER ACADEMY, 1803. The oval silk needlework having an inscribed memorial monument “Sacred to the memory of Mr. Jason Gay Deceased December 1792, aged 18 years”. Two willows hang over the monument with a rising sun and a leafy tree in the distance. The oval bordered with dark sawtooth needlework. The bottom written against grey silk “Wrought by Abigail S. Gay Bridgwater Academy, 1803″. Housed in a period gilt wood frame and decorated eglomise glass. The back board having a John Doggett framing label, Roxbury Street. SIZE: Sight: 18″ x 17-1/2”. PROVENANCE: From a fine Belfast, Maine home. CONDITION: Generally very good, some minimal losses. 9-24884 (1,000-2,000)
