TWO RUSSIAN IMPERIAL DINNER PLATES, IMPERIAL RUSSIAN PLATE AND ENGLISH EXAMPLE WITH WATERLOO PROVENANCE. 19th and early 20th century. The pair of plates in blue, green and cinnabar enamel with gold gilt accents and with a gilt rondel of the Imperial Russian eagle, the border of which with Cyrillic lettering. The reverse of one of these plates with underglaze-blue Imperial porcelain manufacturer’s mark. A white dinner plate with cobalt blue border, the Russian Imperial eagle painted along the side and with a Imperial Russian Palace mark in dark green glaze. The fourth example, a plate purported to be one from the breakfast set presented to a Duke by his Staff Officers on the 1st anniversary of the Battle at Waterloo. SIZE: 8-1/2″ dia.; 9-1/4″ dia.; 8-1/2″ dia. respectively. PROVENANCE: From a West Virginia Collection. The Waterloo plate with period documentation glued to underside of plate and preserved with heavy coat of shellac obliterating some words. CONDITION: The pair of plates in very good condition overall but with areas of loss to gilding and paint in center of plates. The white dinner plate very good overall. The Waterloo service plate with old staple repair across center, otherwise good. 9-21795 (1,500-2,500)
