LARGE LITHOGRAPH ON TIN OF THE STEAMSHIP “SS IMPERATOR”. The lithograph signed “A F Bishop 1911″ lower right. Scene shows the three-stack black hull ocean liner steaming towards the viewer at a slight angle with three other ships beside. Housed in what probably is its original stained wood frame with gilt border. The S.S. Imperator was launched in 1912 from Hamburg and could handle more than 5,000 passengers and crew. Seized by the U.S. Navy as a troop transporter and sold in 1921 to Cunard Line and renamed The RMS Berengaria. It caught on fire in New York Harbor in 1938 and then was scrapped. At the time of its launching it was the world’s largest ship. SIZE: Sight: 29″ x 39”. CONDITION: Small flecks, rust spots, a shallow dent along bottom edge, and 3″ x 1/4″ loss below above and through front lifeboat. 9-21815 (700-1,000)
