GROUP OF FOUR ENGLISH SEXTANTS WITH THREE CASES. Late 18th, early 19th century. The first stained example labeled “Spencer Browning & Rust London”, with complete set of lenses and mirrors and fitted in poplar case. The second, a smaller ebony example, labeled “Spencer & Co London”, in apparent good working order, the oak case with New York retailer’s partial label. The third and largest example of ebony with an ivory label marked “Rd. Barry, Maker, MINORIES LONDON/1803”. In its original oak case with retail label of “Samuel Emory Water Street Salem” together with label of maker “R Barry”. Also appears to be in good working order. The fourth example of ebony with ivory label, indistinct but readable, “Spencer Browning & Rust London”. In fair condition. SIZE: Largest: 16″ l x 13″ w. PROVENANCE: From a Florida Collection.
