CONTINENTAL BURLED WALNUT THREE-DRAWER COMMODE. 18th century. Probably German. The rectangular top with bookend veneers and walnut crossbanding with serpentine front edge and canted corners above the conforming crossbanded case fitted with three long drawers with cast foliate ormolu handles and with cast escutcheons on a molded base raised on bracket feet with shaped returns. SIZE: 32″ h x 46″ w x 25″ d. PROVENANCE: Descended through the family of Shepherd Brooks, Boston, MA. & Medford, MA. CONDITION: Structurally very good with losses to veneers of crossbanded areas. Two of three original locks in place, cast hardware old if not original with old polished surfaces and with original backboards. 9-22192 (4,000-6,000)
