UNSIGNED (LATE 19TH CENTURY) PORTRAIT OF THE BRIG AMY A. LANE. Oil on canvas scene shows the two-masted vessel with sails down, sailing in rough seas in heavy rain. The ship rolls right to left and a legend is on the bottom margin as follows, “CAPT F. A. CAIVER IN A HURRICANE FEBRUARI 5, 1880”. Housed in an antique gesso-decorated gilt frame. Having a new metal plaque with ship name and “BUILT SEARSPORT MAINE, 1867″. SIZE: 20″ x 24”. CONDITION: Relined on a new stretcher. Inpainting with some creases in original canvas otherwise good. 9-20138 (750-1,000)
