RARE JOHN HANCOCK SIGNED FANEUIL-HALL LOTTERY TICKET. The small printed ticket dated “June 1765” and numbered “4068”. The ticket stating “Boston, June 1765 Faneuil-Hall lottery, No. five. The possessor of this ticket (No. 4068) is entitled to any prize drawn against said number in a lottery granted by an act of the General Court of the Province of Massachusetts Bay. For rebuilding Faneuil-Hall; Subject to no deduction. A John Hancock (in script). Housed in a simple wood frame. The lottery ticket has been mounted to a light board. In 1761 Faneuil-Hall was partially destroyed by fire. A printing of 6,000 tickets at $2 each yielded $12,000 but unfortunately 1,486 prizes cost $10,800 and left very little remaining.
