ALFRED HENRI DARJOU (French, 1832-1874) PORTRAIT OF TWO SISTERS. Outstanding oil on canvas portrait of two young girls seated at the edge of a sandy bank with landscape background. The older girl holds her arms around the younger girl who is holding a colorful spray of flowers on her lap. Both wear white dresses and one large brim hat rests beside. A wood shovel and rake lean against the bank next to a large ball. On the other side is a black watering can. Signed lower left “1858 Darjou”. Housed in a fine gilt gesso decorated frame retaining a J. Cardin; Alger label. SIZE: 29″ x 23-3/4″. CONDITION: Very good, relined. 9-99576 (1,500-2,500)
