EDMUND DARCH LEWIS (AMERICAN, 1835 – 1910) VALLEY OF THE WHITE MOUNTAINS. Large oil on canvas valley scene shows a river with small cascading falls and mill house. A dirt road leads around the resulting pond with an oxen driven wagon loaded with hay,having two figures atop with ladder. They head towards a village all nestled below green mountains under a blue and white cloud sky. Signed lower right and dated “1862”. Housed in an antique gilt frame. SIZE: 28″ x 42″. CONDITION: Original canvas which has taped tear repair with some inpainting with other scrapes and small losses. In need of cleaning and restoration; will be a fabulous scene when done. 9-20195 (2,500-3,500)
