ADOLF CONSTANTIN BAUMGARTNER-STOILOFF (German, 1850-1924) “THE CONVOY”. Outstanding large oil on canvas winter scene shows a large convoy of soldiers on horseback and covered wagons galloping through snow under a dark pink and gray evening sky. The soldiers in typical cossack type outfits, some holding banners, others with spears and guns. Signed lower left in Cyrillic. Housed in its original gilt gesso decrated frame. An original label affixed to stretcher “No. 581 The Convoy”. SIZE: 27″ x 41-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Estate of E. P. George of Boston, MA and Thomaston, ME. CONDITION: Very good. 9-93585 (8,000-12,000)
