STAFFORDSHIRE BLUE TRANSFERWARE TRAY AND COVERED VEGETABLE DISH. Mid-19th century. The covered vegetable with dark blue transfer decoration of three travelers beneath a tree, titled “SHELTERED PEASANTS” marked in underglaze blue, printed on a tree branch. The rectangular tray titled in underglaze blue “THE VALENTINE/FROM/WILKIE’S/DESIGNS“, also incised mark under tray, depicting a scene of a family group at table reading a valentine message, within a floral border. SIZE: SERVING DISH: 6″ overall h. x 11-3/4″ overall l. TRAY: 11-3/4″ x 15”. CONDITION: The covered vegetable with small enamel chip losses to one handle and to knopped finial, also base rim chip not visible from side, otherwise very good. Tray with chip to enamel on long edge, old hairline cracks upper third of tray running from outer edge to middle. 9-93994 (500-1,000)
