FRENCH EMPIRE EBONIZED ORMOLU MOUNTED PORTICO CLOCK. First quarter 19th Century. Of typical architectural classical form, the rectangular crest mounted with brass cast scrolling friezework raised on four doric columns with ormolu mounts centering the brass brushed dial, bordered with scrolling vinery and fanciful birds all, cast in brass. The brass movement inscribed with the intitials “F.C” and “1496” on the back plate. On a conforming base also with a cast scroll cartouche, raised on suppressed ball feet, SIZE: 18″h x 9-1/2″w x 5-1/4″d. PROVENANCE: Three paper labels attached to the rear of the base state that the clock is “given by John Talman to his daughter Cornelia on her marriage to Judge Seward Barculo in 1834”, CONDITION: In original condition, the ebonized surface good with minor wear, ormolu trim intact. Overall very good. Brass movement appears intact. 9-94428 (500-800)
