UNSIGNED (American, First half of the 19th Century) A CHILD AND HIS DOG. Outstanding folk art portrait of a child in blue dress having a white lace collar. The child holds an open pink rose in left hand in front of waist. White bloomers, white socks and black shoes. The child has blue eyes with light brown hair is offering something so a small gray puppy who is laying on a footstool. A grayish curtain swag with two tassels hang beside the child. Housed in a period gilt lemon gold frame. We are told that this comes from the Gilpin Family, recently in Philadelphia but family members were known to have lived in Rhode Island and Maryland. SIZE: 32″ x 25-3/4″. CONDITION: Relined, some inpainting, very good. 9-94572 (15,000-30,000)
