GEORGE II OAK GATELEG TABLE. Mid-18th century. The rectangular top with hinged demilune leaves above the conforming frieze fitted with a single drawer, raised on block-and-baluster-turned legs and gates, raised on later turned suppressed ball feet. SIZE: 28-1/4″ h. Top closed: 41″ x 16″. Top open: 41″ x 50-1/2″. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection, by descent from Dr. Samuel Cox Hooker (1864, Brenchley England -1935, Brooklyn Heights, New York), a sugar chemist, magician, and art collector, to the present owner, a great-grand-daughter. CONDITION: With earlier professional restoration and later feet, overall very well done. Table retains old dark surfaces. 9-94668 (1,000-1,600)
