NEW ENGLAND CHIPPENDALE MAPLE AND BIRCH SLANT LID DESK IN ORIGINAL RED WASH. Third quarter of the 18th Century. The rectangular dovetailed case with hinged sloping lid opening to an interior of valanced cubbyholes over an arrangement of small drawers centering a pinwheel carved square drawer. The lid resting on lopers centering a long drawer above three additional graduated drawers, all with thumb-molded edges, on a molded base raised on ogee bracket feet. SIZE: 42″ h x 35-1/4″ case w x 18-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Original red wash finish, cleaned. Backboards original, replaced old brasses, feet and base with old restoration.
