CHARLES WILLIAM WYLLIE (British, 1853-1923) HOME WITH GLORY. Large oil on canvas scene shows a cities population coming out to welcome back the fleet. A procession of oar powered galleons wind through an opening into the harbor with many smaller boats beside. Trumpeters trumpet, people clap and cheer from rooftop turrets and castle sides. A wonderful depiction of an earlier time. Signed lower right. Housed in a fine gesso decorated older frame with some losses. The back stretcher retaining a label indicating it was exhibited at the Royal Academy. SIZE: 34″ x 50″. CONDITION: Relined with some minor inpainting. 9-95551 (12,000-15,000)
