ERNEST ETIENNE NARJOT (American, 1826-1898) “COL. J. C. CREMONY LEADING A FIGHT AGAINST APACHES”. Large oil on canvas panoramic battle scene shows Civil War Union soldiers confronting a band of Native Americans. In the foreground is Col. J.C. Cremony thrusting his rifle with bayonet over his head down at a fallen Indian. Several Union soldiers on foot and on horseback are seen firing guns and attacking. In the background is a cavalry charge against a group of Indians on horseback. The scene is shown under gray and white clouds and probably depicts a scene of the fight of the reoccupation of Arizona. On reverse of backboard is a Kennedy Galleries label as well as a Scottsdale Art Auction label. Housed in a fine gilt carved wood replacement frame with linen liner. SIZE: 32-3/4″ x 52-1/2″. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Geraldine Gaba, Scottsdale, AZ. CONDITION: Relined, restored with areas of restoration have been lightly colored and can be seen in the sky.
