RARE ORIENTAL ORNATELY-CARVED TUSK, CIRCA 1850. The intricate three-dimensional pierce-carved tusk section depicting dense jungle vinery populated with fanciful songbirds and rodent-like creatures; the center panel depicting a fisherman in a boat, farmers with implements, a rider on horseback with child following, and other figures within floral leafy branches. Now mounted as a lamp fitted on a carved teak base. SIZE: 14-1/2″ h. of carving. 17-3/4″ overall h. CONDITION: Fine three-dimensional carvings with good depth and perspective. Missing three round sections from 1/2″ to 1-1/4″ in diameter. Two vertical shrinkage splits continuing down interior sides, causing structural weakness and small losses. Overall in very good condition considering its age and the fragile nature of the delicate carving. 9-92323 (2,000-3,000)
