ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) THE PADDLE STEAMER “LARCHMONT”. Large oil on canvas scene shows the multi-deck passenger boat sailing right to left having two-masts and two stacks. A group of people are seen on both back decks and front deck. American flag flies off back mast and pennant flag off front mast. The top deck having “Edgemont” name board. Signed lower right and dated “1905”. Housed in a fine gilt molded wood replacement frame. PROVENANCE: Rankin Estate, Annapolis, Maryland. Purchased from Smith Gallery, New York, NY 1986. SIZE: 22” x 36”. CONDITION: Very good. Relined, craquelure, inpainting to “Larchmont” names. This possibly could have been a portrait of the “Edgemont” which is the sister ship to the Larchmont. Both are listed in the Jacobsen Checklist as being dated “1905” and of the Joy Line. 9-29675 HP (20,000-30,000)
