OUTSTANDING LACQUER AND INLAID WRITING BOX. Slant lid hinged top box decorated with a multi-storied house having front columns surrounded by trees in front of water with small sailboat and church on left side. The all over gilt and mother of pearl inlaid decoration includes flower sprays and hand painted flowers. The box rests on four bracket type flat feet. 2/3’s folding angular writing surface has red velvet top. Top section of the writing surface folds over to reveal a compartment interior. Top flat 1/3 is hinged and opens to reveal a fitted interior with two crystal and silver inkwells, pen tray and long lidded compartment. PROVENANCE: Estate of Maria M.
