D. CROSBY BROWN (American, 20th Century) SANDERLINGS AT REID STATE PARK. Large acrylic on board Maine coastal scene shows sandy beach with gentle waves rolling ashore. Eight black and white shorebirds are seen in front of little wave coming ashore. Four are seen in flight. Background shows grass and green tree covered rock ledge at end of beach with small island. A wonderful realistic and detailed Maine scene. This is one of a group of three paintings he created from a study he did of Sanderlings at Reid State Park, Maine. This one being the largest. The smaller of the three was featured in the “Eye of Maine” 1981 calendar published by DeLorme Publishing Co. August illustration. Brown is best known for his wildlife paintings and has been featured on a Downeast Magazine cover, various National Audubon Society publications and is represented in collections at MBNA and Eastern Maine Medical Center. Housed in a gesso decorated gilt frame. SIZE: 48” x 71”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-97214 (1,000-2,000)
