Welcome to James D. Julia Auctioneers
One of the nation's leading auctioneers in the trade for approximately 40 years
Rare Lamp & Glass Division

Negative newsabout the economy dominates the media today, but this is also a time of great opportunity in this country. Opportunities for great buys on real estate, business, undervalued stocks and bargains on some collectibles are just some of the great opportunities. For those with cash, now is the best time in over 10 years to find a bargain. "Cash is King", so it makes great sense to consider consigning to our upcoming auctions. But there is also another reason to consider...........

1. 0% commission. That's right, only 0% commission on expensive items. Also very competitive rates on less expensive items. Julia's has always tendered some of the best terms in the industry and is, in part, just one of the many reasons why we are one of the leading auction houses in North America.

2. Cash advances. On important collections or consignments.

3. Finder's fees. We pay significant fees for leads on large and important collections (recently one agent received a check for $165,000 for his lead on a single collection). As Abraham Lincoln is credited with once saying, "...knowledge is your stock in trade". If you know about a collection that could possibly be coming to market, call us immediately. How could you ever make a significant amount of money in an easier way?

4. Free pick up on large collections and large consignments, anywhere.

5. The finest marketing and promotion plan in the business. Our promotion and marketing efforts are the most aggressive in the business. Our catalogs are the finest within the industry. We work for you and we do everything we can to maximize your return.

6.We are auctioneers only, not dealer/auctioneers. Our time, energy, money and efforts are all expended on you. We do not compete with our buyers' buying or with our sellers' selling. We work for you only!!

7. Financial security. James D. Julia's is solid as a rock: in the business for 40 years with our last 5 being the most successful in our history. Banking references available from our banker of many, many years.

8. The strongest rate of return! For a matter of years now, our firm has consistently conducted the highest grossing firearms auctions in history. In addition, we have maintained the highest average sale value per lot on a consistent basis. The last couple of auctions have averaged around $10,000 per lot, per sale. Our Lamp & Glass, Toy, Doll & Advertising and Antiques & Fine Art Divisions are also leaders in their fields.

If you are considering consigning, your primary goal should be to obtain the greatest net return for yourself. In order to do that, two things must be in play 1) select the auctioneer who will get the greatest return for your goods, and 2) select the auctioneer that will give you the lowest commission terms. Julia's does exactly that; the greatest rate of return for the lowest cost. This means the most money for you. Call today. All inquiries are confidential and without obligation.

About
Our rare Lamp & Glass Division is the largest such division in North America. This division deals solely in rare lamps & glass with occasional fine jewelry and silver incorporated. Dudley Browne is the department head and has worked with Julia's since 2001. Dudley originated from Sheridan, Wyoming where he grew up in the antiques and auctions business with his parents. In 1972 after graduating from Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana, Dudley worked with his parents and in 1976 took over the family antiques business and successfully ran it until 1988. In addition to his antiques background, he was an entrepreneur for a period of time and owned and ran an Arby's Roast Beef franchise. He later worked as a stock broker for Edward Jones & Company as well as First Interstate and Wells Fargo banks. Dudley eventually returned to the antiques business when he relocated to Spokane, Washington with his wife Martha in 1991 and continued until they moved to Maine in 2001 to take over the Rare Lamp & Glass Division at Julia's.

When Dudley began in 2001, he brought not only a tremendous knowledge amassed over many years, but also superb sales skills. Even more importantly, he brought his tremendous enthusiasm and love for fine art glass and lighting. His hard work, honesty and personal approach to business has been critical in establishing Julia's Rare Lamp & Glass Division as the leading Rare Lamp & Glass Division in North America. Dudley travels extensively in North America and abroad, working with consignors of rare glass and lamps.
This division is co-supported by an administrative assistant, Julie Killam (who also supports the Toy & Doll Division). Julie has been with Julia's for over ten years now and has mastered almost every position within the company. In fact, at one time Julie, during a hiatus between department heads, actually ran the Rare Lamp & Glass Division and put together one of its auctions. In addition to her tremendous accomplishments as an administrative assistant is her warm and tremendously outgoing personality.

In the few years that Dudley has run this division, it has moved from a notable North American auction house to the leading auction house specializing in superb quality lamps, Victorian and 20th Century art glass, fine French cameo and more. During his tenure here, Dudley's division has established National and World Records and has amassed a formidable clientele of scholarly and affluent collectors from all over the world. Knowledgeable collectors, dealers and institutions will find Dudley's approach, business acumen and knowledge of this genre to be impressive. Of equal importance is his incredibly comfortable demeanor. Dudley regularly conducts trips across the United States to visit with prospective consignors. Whether you have one item or an entire collection, call today to begin to learn all of the many things this highly regarded division can do for you!

June Catalog Cover

Catalog: w/Prices Realized
The talk in the art glass world for weeks prior to our June 19th & 20th auction was that based on quality, rarity, diversity and value, this was the finest offering of rare lamps and art glass to take place this year anywhere, and indeed it was. There was a breath-taking array of superb items and the response, despite the economy, was simply terrific. As was fully expected, with this downturn in the economy, not everything sold and there were more bargains than there were 1-1/2 to 2 years ago when the economy was very upbeat. But the really exciting news about this auction was that A) the sale produced over $1.7 Million in sales; B) it was the largest crowd in attendance at a Julia Lamp & Glass auction for many years with bidders flying in from as far away as Israel to attend the sale, but C) most excitingly was some of the results. Some of the rare things saw tremendous participation and extremely strong prices. D) Here are just a few examples; the rare Pairpoint Puffy Owl lamp was estimated at $15,000-$25,000 and flew away at $42,550 and a magnificent Duffner & Kimberly Louis XV table lamp sold for $47,150. English cameo glass had an extremely strong showing, Jules Barbe vase estimated at $8,000-$12,000 sold for a resounding $24,725 and a magnificent blue and white Webb cameo vase estimated at $5,500-$6,500 sold for $12,937.50. A Galle marquetry crocus vase sold for $34,500, while a wonderful Daum freehand vase with bumble bees buzzed out at $14,950. The sale also featured a fine collection of Steuben art glass with a magnificent green Aurene vase estimated at $7,000-$10,000 selling for $15,525 and a wonderful Steuben peacock eye vase selling for $11,500. Tiffany glass was highlighted by a magnificent padded & wheel carved vase estimated at $25,000-$35,000 sold for $37,375. All in all, it was an extremely successful sale showing a significant amount of competition, participation and life that hadn’t been experienced recently in this market. As was fully expected, not everything sold. There are some spectacular things still available so check out the unsold items and make an offer. This is a time of great opportunity! We area already beginning to put together our offering for the Fall 2009 auction. We have a great deal of interest and it looks as if the Fall auction should be another spectacular success. Whether you have one item or an entire collection, contact us immediately. Our marketing and promotion plan is exceeded by none, our terms are the lowest in the industry for expensive quality items and no one produces any stronger results. Call us today!

If anyone had a concern about the present state of the Glass and Lamp collectibles market in the present economy, those fears should have completely evaporated with the results of our June 19th & 20th auction. Collectors from all over the world competed for this choice offering of rare glass and lamps with an obvious enthusiasm and confidence in rare tangible assets as perhaps opposed to the current stock market. The pre-sale estimate of the total sold on the 19th and 20th was $2,227,655.00 with a final result of $3 million dollars, approximately 33% over estimate. This is the largest lamp and glass auction conducted by the Julia Auction Company to date, and was one of the largest auctions of rare glass and lamps conducted by any firm in North America. There was a vast array of quality and rarity, which was eagerly competed for with, in some case, with dramatic results.

This was a widely diverse sale with glass ranging from Ancient Roman to Victorian to Tiffany and French Cameo glass to Contemporary art glass. The lamp section of the sale featured over 110 quality lamps by makers such as Tiffany, Handel, Duffner & Kimberly, Wilkinson, Pairpoint and many more. The auction featured consignments from numerous estates as well as individual consignors from across North America. Our special thanks to all who participated in this record breaking auction!!
