*BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM BERTUZZI DOUBLE BARREL HAMMER SHOTGUN. Cal. 16 ga. Gorgeous Italian-made shotgun on a light 20 ga. frame with 25” bbls, tapered matted rib, single bead, double lump, extractors, dbl triggers, with the front being articulated, and a thumb safety on the top tang. The wood is spectacular marble-cake Circassian Walnut with splinter forearm and straight stock, 14” over a factory custom steel buttplate and slight cast on for left hand shooter. It has a left hand trigger guard but standard triggers. The receiver, lockplates, trigger guard and forearm are wonderfully engraved in very deep Germanic style engraving in finely detailed patterns of oak leaves and acorns. There is a game scene vignette of a flying partridge on the left lockplate, a flying pheasant on the right side, a bird dog with a partridge in its mouth on the bottom and a flying woodcock on the trigger bow. The hammers are engraved to match. The buttplate is engraved in Bulino style, banknote quality, having a center panel of a field scene with a setter on point and an exquisitely detailed pheasant in the foreground, all surrounded by deep oak leaf patterns. All the engraving was accomplished by G. Fausti of Creative Art, and his signature appears on the trigger plate. Mr. Fausti is written up in the book “RENAISSANCE IN STEEL”. This shotgun started out life with a checkered butt, however, when it became chipped, the consignor states that he returned it to Bertuzzi and ordered the custom buttplate installed. The left barrel has the maker’s name inlaid in gold. The forearm has the Bertuzzi crest inlaid in gold in a center diamond. Accompanied by a late, square-corner, dark brown, Browning trunk case. The consignor states that he ordered this shotgun in 1989 and specified the exact vignettes he wanted engraved. The partridge on the left lock plate was taken from the painting “INDIAN SUMMER” by Owen Gromme; the pheasant on the right lock plate from the painting “AUTUMN HARVEST” by Meger; the setter on the bottom from the book “NEW ENGLAND GROUSE SHOOTING” by Foster; the woodcock on the trigger bow from a painting by David Maas and the setter on the buttplate from the dust jacket of the book “MY DOG SPOOK” by Henderson. He states that he added the pheasant in front of the dog to make it complete. SN 5896 CONDITION: Extremely fine. The barrels retain about 94-96% of their original blue, being slightly dull and thin at the carry point and at the muzzle. There are a couple of tiny nicks and a small wear spot on the bottom of the right barrel. The receiver, lockplates and other engraved surfaces retain about all of their original factory bright finish. The wood is sound with the stock retaining about all its original factory finish and having a couple of small nicks in the surface. The forearm retains most of its original factory finish but is slightly dull over about 50% of the surface and the checkering shows light wear. Brilliant shiny bores. The case is fine. 4-50201 JR (10,000-15,000)
