NEW ENGLAND QUEEN ANNE TRANSITIONAL SIDE CHAIR. Last half 18th century. Comprised of birch, maple and oak, the arched serpentine crest rail with fluted ears joined to chamfered stiles centering a pierced vasiform splat, the trapezoidal woven seat raised on block-and-spool-turned frontal legs and backswept square legs, all joined by a baluster-turned box stretcher. SIZE: 38″ h. of back. Seat: 15-3/4″ h. x 19″ w. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection. Acquired from Wallace Hamilton, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine in the 1970’s.
