EARLY AMERICAN BANISTER-BACK SIDE CHAIR. First half 18th century. The arched and scalloped crest flanked by turned stiles with oval knopped finials, centering four split banister splats joined to the trapezoidal rush seat, raised on sausage-turned frontal legs and joined by a box stretcher. SIZE: 44″ h. of back. Seat: 16-3/4″ h. x 19-1/2″ w. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection. Acquired from Wallace Hamilton, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine in the 1970’s. CONDITION: Chair has been scrubbed and repolished, retaining remnants of original red wash. Rear legs pieced at six inches. 9-94669 (250-400)
