FINE QUEEN ANNE FIGURED WALNUT SECRETARY BOOKCASE. Second quarter 18th century. In two parts, the double-domed wavy-molded cornice above the conforming upper case fitted with a pair of shaped beveled mirrored doors, each with an etched starburst design, opening to an interior fitted with two adjustable shelves above a row of pigeonholes over a row of three serpentine drawers, above an aligned pair of candle slides, fitted to the molded lower case having a thumbmolded hinged slant lid on lopers, the interior with tooled leather writing surface and fitted with an arrangement of pigeonholes, the outermost stepped, above a row of incurved serpentine document drawers, all centering a prospect door, above three graduated long drawers, raised on a quarter-round molded bracket base. The whole in richly figured walnut veneers. SIZE: 78″ h. x 32″ case w. x 21″ d. CONDITION: Old repolished and restored surfaces. Restoration to some veneers and to bracket feet. Old insect damage is minor. Beveled mirror plates original. Escutcheons probably original, brass hardware later replacements. Overall very good restored condition. 9-92779 (6,000-7,500)
