FRED PANSING (American, 1844-1912) PORTRAIT OF THE STEAMER “GENERAL LINCOLN”. Oil on canvas portrait of the coastal steamer General Lincoln. The small boat with double stack is sailing left to right with a large tall ship in full sail flying American flag off bow. There are twelve people aboard in fine dress, one with green umbrella. US and company flag flies off stern “B & H S.B. Co.”. Signed lower left “Fred Pansing” and dated bottom right “1845”. Housed in a fine gilt decorated wide frame with gilt liner. PROVENANCE: Rankin Estate, Annapolis, Maryland. Purchased from Marine Arts Gallery, Salem, Massachusetts, 1999. SIZE: 11” x 18”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-29667 HP (12,500-17,500)
