WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38 WCF (38-40). Standard grade 3rd Model rifle with 24” round bbl, half nickel front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. It has extra finish wood, about 2X, with straight stock and crescent steel buttplate with trap. SN 299371. Accompanied by Cody Museum yellow sheet. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 30-40% blue with the balance a light patina. The magazine tube retains 93-95% blue with a small series of scratches corresponding to scratches on the bottom of the foreend cap. The receiver retains about 90% original blue, bright on the sides with striation marks and a pinhead spot or two of surface rust. The buttplate has traces of case colors but is mostly silver patina. The lever retains 25-30% faded colors with the balance silver and the hammer about 90% fading case colors. Wood is sound with the stock retaining 85-90% strong bright varnish. The forearm shows moderate wear with several small nicks and dings with some oil staining near the receiver but retains about 60% original varnish. Bright shiny bore with a spot or two of light pitting. 4-49971 JR195 (3,000-4,500)
