*WINCHESTER MODEL 97 TRENCH GUN. Cal 12ga. Standard trench gun with 20” cylinder bbl, perforated hand guard with bayonet lug and sling loop with a corresponding loop in the buttstock. It has uncheckered wood with round ribbed forearm and pistol grip stock with Winchester hard rubber buttplate. The wrist is wrapped with braided wire apparently to support a cracked wrist. The right forward side of the frame is marked is marked “US” over a flaming bomb. No other military markings are present. Accompanied by a Remington pattern 14 bayonet with original date of 1913 and redated “10 17”. SN 674057. CONDITION: Good, as previously noted, metal retains a smooth plum brown patina with dark blue on the magazine tube and in sheltered areas on the receiver. The hand guard is a dark gray patina. The forearm is sound and retains about 75% original finish. The buttstock, with its cracked wrist and wire wrappings, retains about 85% original finish. Good bore with moderate pitting. Bayonet is about good, with cleaned blade and dark handles. 4-49241-579 JR526 (500-1,000)
