NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL BIRCH AND PINE TWO-DRAWER BLANKET CHEST. First quarter 19th century. The rectangular top with applied molded edges fitted to the case with a well above two long thumbmolded drawers, on a molded base raised on dovetailed bracket feet with scalloped returns. SIZE: 37″ h. x 43″ w. x 18″ d. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection. Acquired from Robert Hall, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine in the 1950’s by the present owner’s parents. CONDITION: Structurally very good, retaining original backboards and feet. Strap hinges and lock original. Refinished in pumpkin pine with all-over traces of original red paint or wash. Escutcheons original, brass handles are replacements. 9-94673 (700-900)
