LOT OF TWO UNDERHAMMER PERCUSSION RIFLES. (1) D.H. Hilliard. Cal. 38. SN 508. Usual configuration with 25″ medium weight oct bbl, muzzle turned for bullet starter, German silver dovetail front sight and fine V-notch rear sight. The top flat has had the orig seat plugged and moved to its current location, apparently with a replacement sight. The target sight is missing. The left top flat has the maker’s name with “CORNISH N.H.”. It has iron guides with what may be the orig ramrod and brass furniture on the stock. The stock is tiger striped maple with a sweeping shadow-line cheek piece that has an elliptical silver inlay with a rectangular brass inlay on the right side. Accompanied by a set of modern made tools including a turn screw, nipple wrench with nipple pick in the handle and a brass & iron bullet starter. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl retains a smooth brown patina with a cleaned area around the orig dovetail. Top tang is bare metal. Stock is sound with a dark old patina and a few scrapes and old cleaning marks. Mechanics are fine, tools are crisp. (2) Unmarked Long Barreled Underhammer. Cal. 32. NSN. Unusual Kentucky style underhammer with 37-1/2″ oct bbl, German silver front sight, fixed rear sight with some light crude decorations on the top flat. It has a narrow, pointed, top tang with brass furniture in a more modern tiger striped maple stock with simple 2-pc patchbox. The bbl is secured with three pins & the stock has a long nose cap. The nipple is through the wood with a repaired hand forged hammer. CONDITION: Good. Iron has a dark brown crusty patina. Wood shows moderate to heavy wear with an old black finish.
