WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 1ST MODEL SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44WCF (44-40). Early carbine with 20” round bbl, full magazine, 66 style front bbl band with integral sight, 2-position flip rear sight with thumbprint mortised dust cover, staple and ring on left side of receiver. Uncheckered wood with straight stock and smooth carbine buttplate with trap. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this carbine with shipment date of 5/8/1878. SN 17080. CONDITION: Bbl and magazine tube are mostly a light brown patina with traces of finish in the sheltered areas and scattered light to moderate surface rust. Receiver retains 30-40% thin original blue with a balance a light patina. Wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish with a small repair to the left side of the forearm and three others on right side of buttstock. Bore is bright and shiny with a few scattered spots of rust. 4-48802 JR609 (6,500-10,000)
