*TOM MIX’ ENGRAVED SMITH & WESSON 44 HAND EJECTOR 3RD MODEL DA REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Special. Nickel with 5” bbl, square butt and carved ox head on the right grip that has ruby eyes. It has Mexican-style engraving over most of the surface. It is accompanied by a letter from Dan Sonney dated August 12, 1974, stating that this revolver was purchased by his father, Louis S. Sonney, from cowboy movie star Tom Mix in the mid-1920’s for $150. He further states that his father, a police officer of Centralia, Washington, became famous after he captured mail train bandit Roy Gardner in 1921 for which he received a $5,000 reward. He subsequently went into show business where he met Tom Mix. Also accompanied by 5 studio 8 x10” photos; 4 in black and white and 1 in early color of the movie star. In one of the photos Tom Mix is examining a high-grade Ithaca dbl bbl shotgun which has a presentation plaque to him dated “1920”. SN 30846. CONDITION: Fine to very fine, retains 85-90% original nickel with some losses and light rust on bbl. The engraving is through the finish. The grips are extremely fine with lots of color.
