WINCHESTER SPECIAL ORDER MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-60. Standard grade rifle with special order 30” oct. bbl, full magazine, uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent steel buttplate with trap. Half-nickel front sight and long blade 1876 marked ladder rear sight. Accompanied by Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle as having been shipped 7/30/81. Information on page 116 of The Winchester Model 1876 “Centennial Rifle” indicates that there were 314 30” oct. bbls produced in the 1876 models. SN 14907. CONDITION: Good, plus. Bbl retains about 40% thin original blue mixed with brown patina. Magazine tube has a small dent and is mostly light brown patina with light pitting. Receiver retains 35-40% plum blue/brown patina with light to moderate pitting. Lever and hammer retain traces of original case colors. Top tang has moderate to heavy pitting, as does the buttplate. Buttplate has been cleaned. Wood is sound with moderate to heavy use and handling marks and retains most of an old refinish. Worn, dark bore with good rifling. 4-48642 JR561 (3,500-4,500)
