W & C SCOTT & SON MASSIVE DOUBLE BARREL HAMMER GUN. Cal. 8 bore. Huge damascus bbl shot gun with 35-3/4” bbls with smooth concave rib bearing the makers name and address. This is one of Scott’s lower grade guns with a dog and duck on each sideplate along with the maker’s name. The trigger plate and opening lever have fine arabesque pattern engraving with the opening lever marked “W & C Scott & Son Patent” and the trigger guard an engraved flying duck. It has very nicely figured French walnut stock and splinter forearm that is secured with a single wedge through engraved escutcheons. The foreend tip is also engraved. The stock has teardrop sidepanels with Prince of Wales grip, 14-1/4” over a coarse checkered horn buttplate. Accompanied by a copy of Crawford and Whatley’s W. C. Scott book, signed by Crawford. SN 4389. CONDITION: Very good plus. Bbls retain 50-60% brown damascus pattern and the receiver 50-60% faded case colors with the balance turned silver. The right lockplate retains about 80% bright colors and the left traces of colors with the balance a mottled silver. The stock has a large, very old repair in the grip, otherwise the wood is sound and dark with a fine oil finish.
