LANE & READ LARGE BORE HALF STOCK FOWLER. Cal. approximately 4 Bore. High grade fowler with 34” round damascus bbl with concave quarter rib and single bead. Stock is beautifully grained honey and chocolate, highly figured, French walnut with checkered wrist and large shadow cheek-piece. It has pewter nose cap and a single wedge through oval German silver escutcheons. The iron trigger guard is large with a square front and pineapple finial and long pointed pistol grip tang. Bbl has an iron bottom rib with one iron guide and iron nose pipe that contains, what appears to be, the original brass tipped rammer. The lock plate is front action and marked “LANE & READ/BOSTON”. The bottom of the bbl has English proofs. The buttplate is smooth steel with a long stepped tang. There is a small gold oval plate on the bottom of the stock with modern engraving “DANIEL WEBSTER”. CONDITION: Fine. The exposed part of the bbl is a dark brown patina with damascus pattern showing through. Under the forearm is strong bright pattern. All the iron has a dark brown patina.
